Brockham Surgery CORONAVIRUS UPDATE
Please note that BERT is working well with over 100 volunteers. Most of the tasks to date involve prescriptions.
Medical Appointments – Booking Online
Do not go to the surgery for your appointment, it will be a telephone consultation.
We are currently able to offer the booking of Telephone Consultation slots online, one week in advance. These are only for TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS. If the GP feels the patient needs to be seen they will book an appointment for the patient whilst they are on the phone.
We are today 5 GPs down with another 1 stuck in another country and depending on Boris’ news today more could follow, we also have reception and admin staff self-isolating. These GPs are well but self-isolating due to household illness so are working remotely. We are setting up more telephone triage consultations with our GPs plus we are contacting patients as much as we can before any face to face consultations to convert to telephone triage if this is more appropriate and to check they are symptom free, this is to try to minimise the number of patients that come into the surgery to reduce any risk of infection. We have stopped the booking of routine appointments at this point but patients can ring on the day to speak to a GP-we are working hard to maintain a service to our patients. Nurse appointments are still available for patients but this is likely to change to a triage first service.
We are being informed by our Surrey Downs our Clinical Commissioning Group that we should not change patients repeat prescription duration to support patients trying to stockpile. These actions are putting a strain on the supply chain and may exacerbate potential shortages (a bit like the toilet roll debacle). We know from our Newdigate dispensary that they are struggling to get supplier drug orders through and the suppliers themselves have redeployed staff to work in their depots in order to support this demand. The dispensary at Newdigate is inundated with requests and they are working extremely hard to meet demand, this has increased the turnaround time from request to collection. Please bear with us.
We appreciate it is difficult for our patients, especially the older ones who have been told to self-isolate but there are many groups that have been set up; BERT, Nextdoor in Capel, Newdigate, Charlwood, etc., who are forming groups to help patients who cannot get out to collect medication. We would encourage anyone in this position to use these volunteer groups, friends and family in this difficult time.
We encourage any patient that has previously collected their prescription from the surgery to nominated a pharmacy to collect their medication from. This will reduce patient contact with others.
Could we also ask that if a patient needs to telephone their prescription in that they do so around 11.00a.m. after our busy time.
